年華川逝實堪驚﹐It’s astonishing that time gone like water flowing away

歲月蹉跎意不平。So lamenting that years spent without accomplishments

須教眼前爭曉夕﹐Must seize every chance coming forth at dawn or dusk

毋悲老去嘆虛生。So that no grief and sigh for life passed in vain when old

窮通富貴元無定﹐Wealth or poverty is not definitely fated for one

生死無常豈足憑。Life or death is unpredictable and undependable

不見古今雄烈士﹐Don’t you see the martyrs from olden time till now

斷頭台上唱詩聲。Chanting poems on the guillotine
