明月几时有？When will there be the bright moon?

把酒问青天。I ask the azure Heaven, holding a cup of wine.

不知天上宫阙,I don’t know in the celestial palace

今夕是何年。In which year is tonight.

我欲乘风归去，I want to return, riding on the wind

又恐琼楼玉宇，But afraid in the jade towers

高处不胜寒。I can’t bear the chill on high.

起舞弄清影，If dancing there with my shadow

何似在人间？It’s unlike in the human world

转朱阁，Turning round the red pavilions

低绮户，Keeping low to the gauze-adorned doors

照无眠。And shining on the sleepless

不应有恨，Shouldn’t have rancor

何事长向别时圆？But why always grow round when parting?

人有悲欢离合，Humans have grief and glee, parting and meeting

月有阴晴圆缺，The moon’s now clouded, now shining, now waxing, now waning

此事古难全。This thing can’t be perfect since time of yore

但愿人长久，I only wish humans have a long life

千里共婵娟。So everything’s fine within a thousand miles
