[Cultural] Established the quarterly magazine "Australian Rainbow Parrot" in early 2005.Author: JEFFI CHAO HUI WU Time: Tuesday, June 24, 2025, 3:15 PM ········································ [Cultural] Established the quarterly magazine "Australian Rainbow Parrot" in early 2005. "Australian Rainbow Parrot": The Global Chinese Literary Community I Have Built At the moment of founding the "Australian Rainbow Parrot International Writers' Association," I did not foresee that this seemingly small starting point would ultimately evolve into an existence with a strong independent spirit and original power within the global Chinese literary system. It was around 2004, and there was a unique tension in the air of Sydney: information was growing rapidly, the world was continuously shrinking, yet the voice of overseas Chinese was consistently marginalized. Through years of business practice and cultural observation, I became increasingly aware that overseas Chinese literature needed a pure, free platform that was not tainted by systems or utilitarianism. At that moment, a clear voice echoed in my heart: there should be a spiritual dwelling place where thoughts and words could breathe freely. So, I decided to take action to build this space. Not for fame, not for profit, and certainly not to cater to any market or trend, but simply to provide a home for words, to give warmth to thoughts, and to allow every person who loves writing in Chinese to find a coordinate that belongs to them. I. The Starting Point of Going Against the Current "Aust Cai Hong Ying International Authors Federation" www.azchy.com is an international organization that I built together with a group of like-minded authors. Its starting point is simple, yet extremely firm: Non-governmental Non-commercial Non-utilitarian Pure Literature International性 At that time, this positioning was almost a form of "going against the tide." Many people told me that such a platform "wouldn't last long," lacking financial support and market drive, making it difficult to sustain. But I knew that only by being independent could there be true longevity. When a platform does not need to please any power and is not bound by any external framework, it can maintain clarity and purity. II. From Concept to Reality Implementation In 2005, we officially launched the quarterly magazine "Australian Rainbow Parrot." From the very first issue, we have adhered to the highest standards: Global Registration Overseas Official Publication Full Color Design Refined Illustrated Text This is the first internationally published Chinese quarterly in Australian history independently issued by Chinese people, and it is completely not affiliated with any political forces, commercial groups, or academic institutions. It is not a mass-produced product under commercial operations, nor is it the fleeting noise of community entertainment, but rather a literary space that I have built with my own hands, a spiritual laboratory where words can truly grow. Here, every sentence can be taken seriously, and every voice has a place to land. This is the front line of my understanding of civilization, the dissemination of ideas, and the safeguarding of cultural dignity. III. Adherence to Full Process Control I am well aware that any seemingly lofty ideal ultimately needs to be grounded in solid execution. Therefore, from selecting manuscripts, typesetting, proofreading to printing and distribution, I have been involved in nearly every detail. Every article, I read carefully to ensure it not only has the beauty of language but also the power of thought; every typesetting, I personally proofread every punctuation mark to ensure that each page of the magazine is clean and professional; every round of printing, I visit the factory in person, keeping a close eye on the colors, paper, and binding, to ensure that each issue of the magazine lives up to the expectations of the authors, readers, and myself. This hands-on habit stems from the belief I formed during my time at "Chinatown" magazine in 1992—only by mastering the core can one have true confidence. IV. Silent Resonance Our manuscripts come from Chinese writers in dozens of countries across five continents, many of whom I have never met in person, but through words, we have established a deep trust and spiritual resonance. What is even more touching is that, despite not offering any remuneration, we have attracted senior authors from various fields such as literature, academia, journalism, and education to submit their work consistently over the long term. They understand that here, there is no utilitarianism, no transactions, only respect for words and a commitment to the spiritual world. A truly pure platform can always summon equally pure souls. V. From the Folk to the Hall In just a few years, "The Australian Rainbow Parrot" has gained widespread recognition. National Library of Australia Beijing Modern Literature Museum, China Universities and municipal libraries in Australia It is listed as an official document for permanent collection. Even former Australian Prime Minister John Howard and six state governors personally sent us congratulatory letters, giving high praise to this independent Chinese literary platform. At that moment, I realized that a purely literary project starting from scratch, without any background, could indeed become a part of the record of civilization through its independent spirit and uncompromising execution. I have also represented Chinese culture in Australia multiple times, engaging in dialogue with politicians and academics. In those occasions, the speeches I delivered were not empty rhetoric, but rather the thoughts and strength embodied in this magazine. Those images have become irreplaceable historical testimonies. VI. A Microcosm of Civilization For me personally, this is not just a cultural entrepreneurship, but also a thought experiment. I want the world to see that an overseas Chinese without a backing or resources, relying solely on independent thinking and persistent execution, can also carve out a foothold on the stage of civilization. Many years later, looking back, I realized that "Australian Rainbow Parrot" is not just a literary magazine; it is more like a miniature civilization that I built with my own hands. It symbolizes my exploration and layout of culture, language, systems, organization, people, consensus, and the future. It allowed me to witness and verify a fact: not being classified by any system is precisely the most powerful system. Because it does not rely on any existing structure, it is the origin, the mother body, and the transitional interface to future civilization.
